Southern Charm Photography

"Where the South comes alive"

Welcome to Southern Charm Photography- I hope you enjoy your visit. If browsing turns to buying here's a few things you should know.

A word about Quality

You are the ultimate judge of quality. You decide whether the photographer has successfully chosen the right subject, and properly applied the rules of composition and has optimized lighting. The photographer on the other hand, having accomplished these things, still has further responsibilities when it comes to quality. This is what you should expect: matted photos should be printed on quality paper, with quality ink, and acid free matting, backing and tape. Framed prints should be framed by a Certified Framer, in a frame appropriate to the photograph, using plexiglass rather than glass to provide UV light protection and the frame sealed against dust and humidity.

This is precisely what I sell my clients. I use the finest printers with the finest ink to produce prints that will last for generations. The paper I use for my prints is manufactured by: Hahnemuhle FineArt, in Dassel, Germany. I use their Photo Rag Satin and Photo Rag Pearl both of which yield outstanding color, depth and permanence. The permanence rating of this paper using our ink under plexiglass is 137 years.

Our mats, backing and tape are all acid free. The quality you expect is what we provide: Archival quality.

I sell two standard frames: Either Black or Mahogany. I chose these because they are "design-neutral". My frames do not detract from the focus of the photograph and are appropriate for nearly any design motif.

About the Photographer

If you would like some insight into my photography, please read my short Autobiography that describes my interest in photography in the "About" link.

Contacting the Photographer

I think we all agree that sometimes we just want to talk with a human being who works for the company from whom we want to buy something. Please feel free to contact me by phone to discuss either a photo you would like to purchase or just to talk about Photography. Since I have a day job, the best time to reach me is in the evening or on a weekend. My "Contact" information is at this link.

The Equipment I Use

I personally find it interesting and useful to learn what Equipment, Computer or Software other Photographers use. The notion that in order to capture quality photos you need expensive cameras, lenses, tripods, filters and a myriad of camera accessories is simply not true. Quality photographs result from planning, patience, composition, lighting and sometimes a little luck but certainly not expensive equipment. That having been said, good photography equipment does extend your capabilities. For example, a good telephoto lens allows you to capture photos of subjects that you cannot get close to. The Telephoto Lenses available vary widely in price depending upon the quality of glass used, the construction of the lens, image stabilization etc. You simply buy what you can afford. A good camera is one that serves you well. Your choice should be determined by the quality and size of prints you wish to make.Buying too little or too much makes no sense if you know what your objective is. I've listed the "equipment" I use for your reference.

Books and Equipment

I've included a "books and gear store" on my web site to provide a source of Photography Books and Photography equipment and accessories for you. You are able to purchase items from Amazon.com from this link which focuses upon two areas: Books for Photographers and Camera and Photo.

Photography Books

There are literally thousands of books available from this site. My personal philosophy is to be a "Life Long Learner". The best way is to read and from this site you will surely find what you are looking for.

Photographers Equipment

If you access the "books and gear store" follow the link on the right side of the page to the link Cameras and Photos. You will see a drop down menus of many categories of products of interest to the photographer. You can find Camera Backs, Lenses, Tripods, Batteries, Memory discs, SLR Cameras, Point and Shoot Cameras. Literally any camera or photography accessory you might need.

Other Links

There are three other links on my site: "Links" gives you quick access to Google, Yahoo, DMOZ and MSN Search Engines, and Amazon.com links to their site. Another link is"using the shopping cart" which describe how the shopping cart works. The last link is "services" which invites you to call if you have a special assignment you wish me to undertake.
